There is, because we literally know how those aspects of the brain work.

It's possible that there's someone out there whose memory retention doesn't actually shut off properly while they sleep and they can literally remember their actual dreams while they happen (like the memory equivalent of sleepwalking), but if so they'd probably be utterly insane before they ever went through puberty. Because it would essentially be like living a thousand chaotic lives every night. You'd probably lose anything resembling a grasp on reality.
