I went GK, the mobility is really nice and having weapon triangle control helps mitigate the fact he can be broken since you can choose the appropriate weapon for enemy clusters.

General being 4 move when everyone starts to get 5 or 6 hurts. Because a front line unit that's always trailing the front lines kinda ultimately reduces the movement of the whole team.

I'd say that unless you really need Mystical units or more staff support, Mage Knight is the better of the classes. Chaos style is a great ability. And its got better mobility.
Sigurd for the extra movement and ability to dash through a pillar of enemies helped a lot. Plus having canter and later canter+ just made him the perfect melee bait. Have to just beware late stages when mages freeze him and other mahes can get up to him the next turn.
