If Amazon sends you two of the same item, the only time they might ever want it back is if they both arrived quickly.

So you order let's say a video game, and two of them arrive within 5 days. They might expect the other one back if they notice the mistake, if you ever receive one of an item then another comes way later they won't ever expect it back. Shit 9 times out of 10 even if they do send you two of the same item quickly when you ordered one they won't want it back. Again this is just written off as a mistake on their end and Amazon always assumes responsibility for those.

Those claiming that if you tell Amazon they will immediately demand it back are also wrong, if it did truly take a year to arrive. Amazon typically stands by their delivery estimates heavily, if they tell you a package will arrive in 5 days and it takes 10 or 15 they will sometimes refund you and let you keep it or, at least give you a partial refund if you call and complain.
