It doesn't justify the landlord escalating like this, but it's still relevant nonetheless. It absolutely does not matter at all. Not one iota. The ONLY reason to paint this as a "both sides" scenario is to try and justify the landlord's actions, which is what you are doing when you blame the tenants for how mad the landlord is.
