Steam(and here) were burning down with people that were mad about the games existence and how Valve should be supporting the first game instead of making a sequel, about how it's a money-grubbing move to make a sequel less than a year after. People made groups and videos about boycotting. Was a pretty big thing for its time(oddly enough, no one would care now lol).

The end result was it had one of the biggest openings in Steam history at the time.

Most video game boycotts have followed that blueprint since.
