Yes there are some studies that show that its beneficial in low-moderate doses in reducing heart disease and diabetes, and both of those can shorten your life. But there are also studies that show that alcohol can increase your risk of cancer. What the WHO said is that theres no study looking at your overall mortality outcome when looking at the risk of cancer vs benefits of heart dz and diabetes. Thus there is no conclusion to be drawn.
