I think there's genuinely good gameplay in it. I mean, there must be because I liked the first game and most of this one is just a refinement of the formula. But there are just subtle changes throughout that make it just dogshit to play. The dodge roll is garbage at getting distance, but it doesn't have enough invincibility frames to dodge attacks. It is the only way of avoiding damage in this game, so combat mostly consists of face-tanking as much as possible and healing through it.

And the story is....not good? It tries really hard to be a somewhat cinematic game, but it's just not. Aloy is an incredibly wooden character with her only emotions being monotone or mildly mad. Ashly Burch can act, I've seen her do it, so this is an intentional choice they made. The Zeniths are literally evil for the sake of it and they have very little development. Gerard is the boss, Erik is the warrior, Verbena is the one that dies early, and that's the extent of their characterization. Tilda gets a little more development because she wants to bang Aloy, but then she does a rapid turn back into villainy at the end.

And then the entire game just kinda turns out to be pointless because it introduces a new villain in literally the last five minutes of the game and it turns out this is just part two. Oh, and we need a way to justify having robot dinosaur enemies in the next game, so the AI you spent 80% of the game trying to capture got out again, don't worry, you can catch it next time. So dumb.

I think I want to like the game so much that it's clouding my judgement. The world is really cool, it's just sad that they've fucked it up so much after the first game.
