Topic	Chao abuse has to be the worst thing you can do in a video game.

Or were they replaced with the mysterious dying chao? It's been a very long time, but if I recall correctly, my chao were still there. I think what happened is the empty chao spots (I think a garden can hold 8?) got randomly filled up.
