I looked into it, and according to a study done in the UK, the reason for orange female cats being rare is because of the ginger gene in cats being attached to the X chromosome. So, while males only have to have one to be born orange, females need two. The article I read confirmed the percentages I said before, too. Up to 80% of orange cats are male, leaving 20% to be females.
