This is another point. What made stuff like Guardians of the Galaxy connect with today's audience also applies directly to F-Zero. The current GotG loving audience is like, perfect for an F-Zero movie.

That isn't to say it would work, but the potential is clearly there. And it's why F-Zero has more potential than, say, Metroid or Star Fox, which would have to live purely on "space movie" hype. You can easily have a trailer of Captain Falcon banging to some 80s music. You can't do that with Samus or Fox.

EDIT: My argument is mainly that there's more potential in building to an F-Zero movie than there is in just pushing out a Metroid movie. Metroid is not a widely beloved casual series like Mario, and it can't get over on GotG-esque appeal like F-Zero can.
