This has to be one of the few shows where the MAL super high score catches the eye and leads people to checking it out.
There's not many outlets that would just promote a late 80s to mid 90s OVA series. But for the longest time this show ranked very highly on MAL.
But it's very much worth watching.

Though these days it's possible the new series has led some to check out the original series.
I also think LotGH is a good fit for a live action adaptation. But seeing how certain anime properties are currently being handled.
Maybe we gotta wait a bit longer for big budget adaptation. JP's strong suit is adaptating cheaper stuff while LotGH demands a grand scale.
