One that sticks in my head about 20 years later and I'm not sure why, is an argument I was involved in on the Final Fantasy X board.
Minor FFX spoilers:
In FFX there's spots where you can stand on to teleport across the map, you can also use save points to teleport onto an airship (and an NPC is shown touching a save point and vanishing at one point)
We had this really stupid argument about whether or not in canon characters actually can teleport or whether or not it's just a game mechanic. Akin to fast travel in Skyrim.
I believed the latter as the random never mentioned inclusion of teleportation seems to go against a lot of plot points in the game.... And the users at the time who disagreed with me got SO angry about it it was unreal.
They were so mad that myself and some others didn't think teleportation was canon and got so heated and slung so many insults. It really really bothered them.
Too this day I still think about it sometimes and how people can be so passionate about such utterly random stuff.
