Holy shit those are expensive. I'd rather make one myself.
Super expensive. I'd really rather not pay $3k+ for a bike, but driving stresses me out. I like having a car and license for convenience, but if possible I'd definitely prefer to ride. And since I only live 2 1/2 miles away from work, there ought to be ample opportunities. I'm not so good at making ... well, anything.

Im not a big fan of step through bikes. The first seems similar to my Radmini, i did change the tires from knobbies to road tires. I also changed the crankshaft to more teeth to get a higher top speed and the pedals, the stock ones were cheap plastic.

I would go with either the first link or the 3rd link commuter.

I also have an Emove Roadrunner which is a lot of fun to zip around with.
I don't think I've ever ridden a step-through. All the (regular, not electric) bikes I've had have been step-over. It's something I haven't thought about, but from what I gather step-overs are considered better for hilly riding? If that's the case that might be something I need to consider, there's a lot of elevation change where I live (literally 2/3 of a mile up a hill).
