Finished Dark Forces and Killer7.

Dark Forces was pretty good overall and pretty impressive for its time, but had a few design hiccups that keeps it from being one of the all time greats. Like you die from falling, but there's a few places where you have to jump down shafts or drop down from a ledge, or where it's not really clear where there isn't actually a way forward and you have to take another route, or where you have to manipulate a switch but it's not necessarily clear what it does unless you're looking out the window in the direction of the object immediately after pressing it. Maybe a few more voice clips to give you a bit of a nudge sometimes would have helped. Also the invisible force fields/gas not having any indication it's there (well, ok there's the light on the edge of the force field but there should be a special effect on the force field itself to make it a bit more obvious that it's there), and the respawning enemies (not a major issue, it's just a bit bizarre sometimes, like in the areas cut off from the rest of the level by the rotating bridge).

Killer7 would have probably been better if it committed to being either a survival horror or rail shooter, instead of trying to mix them. Also the "boss" battles are super not fun, although it's probably mostly intentional. The overall plot also seems like it's pretty specifically Japanese (like I get the feeling it's mostly about Japan not being allowed to have an army after ww2, and politicians like the former prime minister Abe trying to get the constitution amended to allow the country to have an army again instead of the JSDF.... but Abe supposedly had ties to the foreign unification church cult which got him assassinated in real life) but I don't really know about the politics about it to try to actually try to analyze it or the writer's position on it is, and trying to translate Japanese politics over to a US setting comes off as even stranger to a US audience. Still, glad to have finally played it at least.
