Let us look at this from the perspective of fandom

The goal of this website for Fandom is to make them money.

In order to make money there needs to be users on this site. In 2010 an average poll of the day got 120k average votes, and the average user age was 24 withers there being lots of diversity both above and below that number. In the modern era the average engagement of a PotD is 5k, and the average age of a user is 40, and there are less than 2% of users under the age of 24.

In order for Fandom to make money they need to reengage all of the normie users that outgrew GameFaqs. They need to do this while also attracting new (younger) users to the platform.

Current Events is very niche. Its neither a demographic that can be sold to advertised or leveraged to reengage old users, nor acquire new ones.

However, since this community is comprised of the most active, dedicated, and influential GameFaws users, it definitely does set the vibe for the rest of the site. The Current Events message board is typically a trail blazer for the ebb & flow of the site, and historically has influenced the administration in regards to which direction to move the platform forward.

In that regard this community might be (rightfully) attributed the blame for why the site is currently so hard to monetize, and growth has significantly stunted/decreased.

To Fandom this community might just be expendable enough to take the risk of deleting it for the purpose of resetting the vibe/ambiance/atmosphere back to a clean slate.
