They are probably the least well done system in the game. Like for the most part they aren't terribly annoying and they are good for drawing enemy attention or kill things you don't want to waste your weapons on like Chu Chus. But their powers are just awkward to use. You have to chase them down, press A to activate then use them. All of their powers should have been accessible by using the down arrow as a radial, regardless if they are deployed or not. The Wind Sage's also desperately needs a cancel option. So many things accidentally blown off cliffs.
They should have moved the horse whistle to where the map is currently in the radial menu. No need for the map to be there when you can just bring that up with the - button. Then they could have nicely slotted in the Sage abilities on Dpad down.

Accidentally activating them doesn't bother me too much. Sometimes it's more amusing than annoying. But now that I have three, they do kinda clutter the screen a lot. But I also like having them around as traveling companions. I usually only ever turn them off when repairing weapons.
