I mean Paul is probably not getting another deal like the one he's on currently, he's clearly in decline and he's super old. He also probably wants to stick with the suns because they're good, so he's got his own motivation for possibly signing a lesser deal. Also also, his next year after this one is completely non-guaranteed, so if he signs a lesser deal with a couple of guaranteed years, he gets rid of that non-guarantee and doesn't risk getting cut for nothing next season.
