That word that has everyoine going crazy is like the F bomb in english.
You can use it for a bunch of shit in the mexican language.
As people have already stated it can mean the following:

-A prostitute as in actually charging money for sex.
-A slut as in a promiscuous person.
-Adding it as a prefix for emphasis ala "fucking" piece of shit or "fucking" shit your mouth you can call someone "P$%# imbecile" to call soemone the sone of a "fucking imbecile"
-YES, one of the uses is indeed pretty much the equivalent of the f slur. as in used to insult people that are attracted to the same gender.
-It CAN be used as a generic insult, like calling someone a "bitch" as has been mentioned as well but it is a rare ocurrence.

Now, out of all the possibilities foreigners decide to get offended by the worst possible possibility then that's fine, but this shit is tradition that has been going on for decades and it is unlikely to change. Mexico has been very accepting of gay culture and it is even "fashionable" to be gay in CDMX as I have been told.

That said I dont give a fuck about soccer and they can ban whatever the fuck they want, I'm just amused that this is another instances in which outrage culture is at play.
