Yeah, it's very unlikely that he will be face a trial in the US. AFAIK, most likely they will judge them in Germany, and put them in prison in the US. But it's not like Germany and the US are not discussing and working together there, and if both want some deal, it may happen for whatever reasons. It's still an US-citizen killing other US-citizen.
