TopicIf Chris Benoit didn't kill his family he would be a footnote in Wrestling.

A lot of people would probably like him despite hating other people who are nowhere near as awful as him. Benoit had already been abusive to his wife for years at the time of the murder, it's not like he would have just stopped. There's probably never a scenario where we don't have some sort of Benoit Incident, even if it didn't prove to be fatal for anyone. He'd just end up being an example of how much wrestling fans have very selective morality, if you're not a good worker being a bad person is awful but if you are one you can be as shitty as you want and it's all cool.

His big career highlight of winning the world title at Wrestlemania would also feel a lot less dramatic in hindsight after seeing Daniel Bryan Danielson and Kofi Kingston both have "underdog/unexpected champion" stories that were a lot more compelling than his.
