I would say Benoit was definitely better than Owen, better than Kurt and not as good as Bret in his prime but overall probably has more great matches than Bret did. But what point are you even making anymore? You're now going out of your way to compare him to some of the best people that ever did it. If anything you're just reinforcing that Benoit was phenomenal and if he didn't commit the murders then he would be remembered very fondly. Also Shamrock is an amazing comparison because he's maybe the exact opposite of Benoit. Shamrock was a very entertaining spectacle who was 90% look and charisma. You wanted to see the the guy get busted open and scream like he's emerging from hell to put someone in an ankle lock. In the ring he got better as he went along but he was never anything super special --- I pray god will curse the writer, as the writer has cursed the world with this beautiful, stupendous creation, terrible in its simplicity, irresistible in truth ...
