If I'm being brutally honest, even as someone who was a massive fan of his before that happened... He would've gotten in the HoF eventually, but that's not really a high bar. Even if that never took place his career was likely over relatively soon after. He would have his fans listing him as one of the greatest still, they just wouldn't be blasted for mentioning it. The same arguments would still happen that do, just without the mention of how his life ended. So in the end, yeah, he'd be a footnote with a following. If anything the sad reality is that how his life ended probably made him more popular than he would've been otherwise due to him just being an easy ticket for a heated discussion. ...
