I never really learned to play chess. If I read a guide, I can play reasonably until I forget. I never loved chess.

I love the concept of tak. You have an army of stones: you can pile them on comrades or enemies and you can order a stone to be a wall. Then you have a king which cannot be captured and can capture a wall.

You can play on 9, 16, 25, 36, 64 squares where 5x5 and 6x6 are common. I love the simplicity of the rules. I plan to learn how to play some day. Right now I am designing/printing a board and pieces.

I think I am close to the final product. The requirements of tall stacks which can balance a standing stone, a board which can be 3x3, 4x4, 5x5 or 6x6 and which is pleasing to the intellect has extended the project.

The strategy is in the stacks. A stack can be any height up to the number of total stones+1. There is a limit to how many stones you can carry.

In a way you create a new piece every time you build a stack.

The game is based off Patrick Rothfuss' 'trilogy'.
