If Speed did start acting like an ass (or at least for the morals of cartoons at the time, overly selfish) it tends to bite him back really hard. The whole debacle with the World's Fastest Car is but one such. tl;dr synopsis: A company puts out the reported 'world's fastest' and Speed is given a chance to test drive the vehicle, dubbed GRX. Problem was due to the insane speeds, he needed a serum to keep focus which was handily provided by the GRX makers, but had a side effect that made you thirsty, but that came with another side effect of breaking your perception of speed and making you deathly afraid of going at any speed faster than walking should you DO drink water while still under the serum's effects.
