I feel like a lot of Americans dont really want to travel generally. I know that international travel can be more challenging for them than somebody who lives in the UK popping over to France or Spain or whatever, but there also seems to be a real lack of interest in doing it even as a hypothetical.

I dont know if its a coping mechanism or if its the greatest country in the world indoctrination thing at play, but I do find it strange.

That's absolutely what it is. Every time I go to China I hear a bunch of shit about how I'll get arrested and it doesn't happen. I can't say bad shit about the government in China, that's not even unique to the country. When you arrive in Thailand they tell you right in the airport that insulting the king or Buddhism is a crime. Everyone just consumes outrage media and assumes entire countries are out to get them the minute they arrive. I'm not saying you should go to Afghanistan or something, but a lot of places in America are exceptionally dangerous and yet Americans act like they're going to be in significant danger going to a tourist area in New Delhi.
