Sounds like 3way/4way switches. Can't really do anything to make them all turn off/on uniformly as far as I know.
Yes, but she will typically use only 1 switch. For example our kitchen has 2 entrances (well one is the dining side, other kitchen) she will typically use the kitchen side switch to turn the lights off. Our front door is in between the kitchen and dining room. This also has a switch on it which she likes to keep that switch in a certain position
