I found the game stellar right up to the snow region. After that, it's like every bad From Software habit came roaring back. Huge difficulty spike, unfair boss design, bull shit traps, etc.

I hit a boss I thought was so poorly designed that I stopped for a year. Recently picked it up and pushed through and beat it at 98 hours, but that last bit almost broke me
I agree, the fire giant is so annoying.

That's usually how I plays souls games honestly. Get like 15-20% in, stop for like a year, then come back lol.

Overly difficult judt for the sake of it, no real plot or story to speak of, open world (a red flag nowadays). I feel the hype around this is forced.
The plot is the same type as dark souls which could be a little more straightforward.

Elden Ring kind of misses the mark when it comes to what made Dark Souls bosses so fun. They had patterns that rewarded observation and patient play, with consistent openings you could learn. Elden Ring on the other hand has a few bosses that read inputs and will punish a heal on the first frame, as well as attack chains that can randomly continue for an additional attack when you thought you had an opening.

Boss design like that is cool and all, but the player character isn't really well equipped to handle it. ER still has the kind of commit to your attack and get punished if you whiff type gameplay, but with hyper aggressive bosses. Compare this to Bloodborne, where the bosses tend to bare down on you hard, but you have a very good dodge and the ability to gain back your health to compensate, as well as most weapons having very quick movesets with little downtime

I still love ER. They did a lot of things very right that the series needed but yeah the boss design feels way overtuned compared to your character

I never thought of it as your character not being able enough, but that does make sense. The frame perfect fire balls when healing are really frustrating, and seemingly holdable attack animations that wait for you to make a move seriously suck.

It was pure powerfantasy for me. Just upgrade weapon max. Then apply buffs and wear those talisman things. Take down most bosses quickly. I pretty much just jumped attack the entire game with colossal hammers. It was soo fun man

Only malenia, hobo wolf, and final boss I felt I couldn't brute force and I had to rely on LUCK (hope that they are less aggressive the next fight) .still very fun tho . And I didn't use any spirit ashes really. with MAXEd ashes it would have been total annihilation against all bosses.

I consider it a good rpg cuz it did the weak to strong trope well imo
I'm honestly underleveled for a lot of what I'm doing but I did a similar thing in my first play through of ds3. I was like lvl 160 by the end of it lol.
