Biggoron's Sword: I actually like the idea that a random goron can forge a more powerful sword than the Master Sword, but since he's not a magical being, it's not quite as good at fighting magical evil. That makes a shocking amount of sense for a Zelda game. I also like the implication that to him, it's like a toothpick, but to Link, it's this ****off huge sword where you can't also use a shield. I kind of enjoyed it in OoT, where you collected more and more equipment, and had to switch between it in the item screen, it made you feel like more of an adventurer, and giving you an alternate sword with its own advantages and disadvantages was part of that. Now, granted, I would like it a little more if it wasn't just another gray sword with a blue hilt, maybe make it look rockier or have black metal or whatever, but that's fine, that's good. I even like how it's used in Soul Calibur II, since it's just a really long sword that drains your health. I would never use it, but it is a cool idea.

Secret Jingle: I think of this as being as much a part of Zelda as the lightsaber vwoosh is part of Star Wars, so I was actually shocked to see it's only in like half of the games. Anyway, OoT/MM > LttP > BotW > LoZ > TP > SS. Goddamn, SS even screwed up the secret jingle by adding an extra tone in the middle, that's just embarrassing.

Navi: Navi isn't nearly as bad as her reputation suggests, but she's still a little annoying. She's the proto-Fi in that regard; she's not really that bad or interruptive of your adventure, but she set a very bad precedent for what came later. She also, unlike every other companion after her, isn't part of the deep lore. She's just a gameplay mechanic, basically. "Here's a glowy thing around the enemy you're targeting." "Here's someone to tell you where to go next." I guess she's part of the plot, the game does kick off with Navi entering your room and telling you to go on an adventure, and I think her presence is why the Lost Woods don't kill you, but like, if this was a later Zelda game, she would be integrated into the story way more. Ganondorf would need to capture a fairy to activate the mystical runes that blah blah blah, you get the idea. Fantastic fairy design, by the way. Way better than humanoid fairies, I always really liked them being balls of glowing light with bug wings, that's very distinctive without being gross. Like, so many Zelda things are intentionally slightly gross, so it's good that the fairies are just cute instead. Has there ever been an evil fairy in Zelda? I don't think there has, right? I think they're exclusively helpful? The only ones I can think of are Tatl and Tael, and that's kind of pushing the definition of evil, since both help you.

Poe Collector: This is what I'm talking about. Weird, gross guys who have vague implications for the world, but aren't explained at all. What's this guy's deal? What's the value of a poe? What does he mean that he'd be in a different business if he was as good-looking as Link? Why is it safe for him to hang out in Castle Town? None of these things are ever addressed, and it's great. He wants the world to decline to benefit his business, but what the hell do you do with a ghost?
