I will say this, first couple seasons its a bit annoying because its about these loser nerds doing nerd things, but once they get girlfriends the show improves dramatically. By season 3ish / 4ish when Amy is introduced it becomes just like a normal sitcom, the addition of the girls is the best thing that could have happened to the show.

Duality of man, etc.

Personally, adding the girlfriends wasn't really the issue. It's more about the mismatched dynamics.

Leonard and Penny, when they were together, were largely insufferable for most of the run. Penny was almost always better with anyone else.

Sheldon and Amy had some downs, but were mostly improved.

Howard was already pretty good to start, whether he was with Bernadette, Penny, or even Sheldon.

We don't talk about Raj.

And yes, Young Sheldon is worth watching.
