If you're looking for a Soulslike it's not that. They did not try to shoehorn the Souls formula into AC, for better or worse. It is more forgiving than older AC titles mostly due to how they've made the game play so well on a controller. Very fluid and easy to learn

It reminds me a lot of Ace Combat how it's structured with missions/levels. In between missions you can purchase new parts and reconfigure your AC, and you can replay missions as much as you like to earn higher ranks and money/parts

It's not terribly difficult beyond some difficulty spikes mostly involving boss encounters. I've been tearing through most missions until I come across a boss... There's some tough enemies you'll come across that are optional to the mission objectives and therefore wholly unnecessary to fight, though they may be required to defeat for S-ranks I dunno yet

I've found the game rewards aggressive, close quarters combat and is more difficult to play at range, though that may be due to my load out. Might be possible to build a mech that is lethal at range but I haven't figured that out.

Not saying there isn't a plethora of hard-hitting ranged weapons, only that from what I've seen the tougher enemies are easier to dispatch up-close. The riff raff are easy to dispatch at range or up-close
