The side quests in this game are bad and completely fuck up the pacing. New ones unlock after every main story event. So earlier in the game, the bad guys kidnap the love interest and are fleeing with her on a ship to another continent The main story mission before that was that some of your friends were trapped in a city that's under siege by monsters.. So even though both of those things are extremely time sensitive events, there are still like five side quests to bumble around this entire country - on foot, mind you, there is no indication you're magically teleporting - running minor errands.
