In my attempt to reclaim the experiences that I missed during my 20s and 30s, I've been kind of yearning to change my appearance and mannerism; in a way that people half my age will see me as one of them. It's been difficult so far, in the sense that I can't seem to get the flow of conversation right. I end up saying the wrong slang at the wrong time, or I over emphasize things in a way that comes off arrogant and marked with millennial entitlement.

For example, an 18 year old was talking about the struggles of rising inequality and instead of replying with the expected one word response, I attempted to have a serious discussion and asked them what they thought about the racial wealth gap and who was to blame? They looked at me and I could see the hesitation in their eyes. Now I'm thinking all they really wanted to do was appear to discuss "important issues" and have someone validate their thoughts as contribution to society. If I had only said, "base" I think my chances of becoming friends with this person might have improved dramatically.
