Okay so I've been sleeping on this game because most of the reception I've seen has been that it's kind of mid, but no, this game is rad as hell. What a great metroidvania. It's got everything I want from this genre of game, even weirdcute characters and a story I was somewhat invested in. It's basically about a Korean afterlife bureaucracy, which immediately reminded me of Death's Door, but I like this game's story, characters, and aesthetic like 100x more. Gameplay-wise the most interesting thing it did to shake up the metroidvania formula was make your grounded attacks (specifically the last hit of your melee combo) so so so much stronger than your aerials, which really changes up the usual [jump -> attack -> attack again while landing -> repeat] metroidvania combat without going all Soulsy instead. It's not a hard game like it pretends to be but it's juuust tough enough to feel satisfying when you kill a boss or beat a tricky section. I 100%ed this (except for some challenge achievements that would require separate playthroughs, and achievements for getting the bad/neutral endings) and enjoyed basically every minute of it. Great game. --- Congrats to BKSheikah, who knows more about years than anyone else. ... Copied to Clipboard! |
