| Topic | House may be looking to expel Gaetz |
| streamofthesky 10/01/23 2:05:55 PM #42: | Doe posted... I just don't buy the "devil you know" argument, it sounds too much like maintaining the typical Dem status quo of never actually pursuing consequences for the GOP. If the GOP can't retain a competent leader, that's a good thing. It's not just that McCarthy is a less extreme Speaker than whoever would replace him. It's also again....how many chances will there be to get Gaetz out of Congress? He's in a deep red district. This is basically it. McCarthy will be head-hunted his entire reign as Speaker. Dems could actually forge some sort of power-share agreement w/ him to at least get nominations and basic spending and Ukraine aid, etc... through so we have a functioning government. But nah, toss that away to gamble on a few Republicans (which as AOC said, there are no moderates anymore) staying home so Jeffries can become Speaker vs... doing what Republicans always do and circle their wagons around whatever crazy leader emerges rather than cede any power at all to Democrats! darkace77450 posted... Jim Jordans name was being floated as an alternative to McCarthy last time. God help us if hes ever Speaker.Case in point... [LFAQs-redacted-quote] Republicans will never cooperate to let a Dem become Speaker, which is the only way that happens. That is utterly pointless and just lets the next even crazier Republican slide into Speaker. ... Copied to Clipboard! |
