It's true for many product ads (especially Amazon), but most ads just go for general demographics ("male, 30ish"), and many others just spread out everywhere they can do it for cheap. Many of them don't even aim for the user specifically, but the site they are embedded on (so, not Karovorak is a 30ish man, but GameFAQs is visited by mostly 30ish men).

Like, I just opened my ad invested local newspaper without ad block on, and I got some ads about medical skin issues and cars. I don't give a shit about cars, I don't even have a licence.

Yeah, if I go somewhere specific(like when I went to BigBadToyStore to look at stuff I can't afford) I'll get ads for it first like a week.

But I never click these sort if links or anything, and I've no interest beyond laughing at them.
