A Guillermo Del Toro special, so you know it's good! It's been forever since I watched Mimic, and I think I may not have actually seen all of it due to syndication. It's one of those where I've probably seen the whole movie, but not actually in one sitting. Mimic is about a scientist who creates a fancy cockroach in a lab to defeat a roach disease hurting people. Years later, they evolve and become cockroach people that can look like humans. Like with most Guillermo Del Toro movies, the visuals are top notch. These fucking roach men are awful and horrifying. They somehow make a giant cockroach look sinister and daunting, and I kind of love a lot of the visuals early on with it. The visual where they put together the cockroach's disguise always sticks with me, in particular. Aside from that, it's basically people vs. cockroach men, and I think the script is tight and keeps on the action and shows off the dread of these creatures that they are not to be messed with, as they murder pretty much everyone effortlessly. It always felt like a simple and easy story to watch play out, with plenty of shocks involved. Mira Sorvino does a great job as the lead and you really feel her plight. Quality main character. The supporting cast also does a great job too in service of the story. Overall, I don't know that there's a ton to say about Guillermo Del Toro's first American film. But you can definitely see through the cinematography that he had a vision for this. He has a very special directing style, and one you can tell has only gotten better with time. Rating: 7.5/10 --- I stream sometimes. Check it out! www.twitch.tv/heroicbiz/ ... Copied to Clipboard! |
