if not for the spinoffs, my career would have played out so differently. it was like a crash course in full stack development. html, css, js, php, mysql, basic information security, ui/ux, web hosting, you learned to work with it all.

i think that if another spinoff is developed, it should be federated or p2p.

It did a lot for my coding abilities too, although honestly I spent a couple of years working in IT and hated it. Still nice to have the skills for hobbyist stuff tho; I host the largest Lemmings fan community and maintain two Lemmings clone engines (one based on DOS L1 but expanded for custom content purposes; the other a fairly close clone of L3D), and I think playing around with spinoffs is a big part, if maybe not quite the sole source, of my skills with this kind of thing.
