It's the opposite. They tend to scatter and flee from pesticide, causing them to hide for months. What happens is that you think they're gone, then suddenly comeback when the coast is clear. This is why over the counter bug spray makes bed bugs worse. I've seen bed bugs hang out on the ceiling because it was the only place that wasn't sprayed.

The sure 100% effective method of getting rid of bed bugs is fumigation. You bubble your home and fill it with basically bug mustard gas. Spray and heat treatments can fail. This is why bed bug extermination is expensive. It's not a one time gig, it's a project.

It actually becomes cheaper to just toss beds, couches, and other furniture out and buy new ones than it is to hire an exterminator.
