I made it to the last season of Slasher on Netflix! And what a season it is. After this, they moved over to Shudder, where they remain successful and have even been greenlit for a third season. Solstice is about how someone gets murdered during the Solstice party in a small town, and a killer appears to be killing people who seemed to have an issue with them that lived in the same apartment complex. I have to say I believe this is the best season of Slasher, and it's really freaking good. Getting the easy stuff out of the way: the kills are extremely creative and brutal. Constantly unexpected ways to die that I think surpasses the previous two seasons. I had seen the season once, but I forgot just how wild some of these kills are. Now, for the more substantial stuff. This season has so much diversity in it in terms of race and sexuality. White, Black, Middle Eastern, Indian, Hispanic, asexual, bisexual, gay--there's a ton here. And none of them fall into some kind of stereotype. They're all fully fleshed out characters, even to the most minor one. That's what's so impressive about this season is that the characters are outstanding. There's even a character who has fallen into the alt-right pipeline that is easy to hate, but you eventually see him go through his own arc. They take their time to really flesh out people, before death, during death, and after death with flashbacks. It's great. And there's so many twists and turns and relationships with one another that get flipped around. It rules, and none of it is expected. Easily the most creative season in terms of having a giant storyline that seamlessly weaves these characters into the narrative. Probably what stands out most about this season is that the entire season takes place in a 24 hour span (flashbacks excluded). Every episode is 3 hours time, which I thought was very cool as well because they stay in that timeframe. So if you have to watch any one season of Slasher, I recommend Solstice the most. It's the most ambitious season that completely pays off. If serial killer stuff is your thing, you won't be disappointed by this one at all. Rating: 9/10 --- I stream sometimes.
