When it comes to violent conflict, bad things are going to happen on both sides, regardless of our feelings on them.

When the Allies invaded Germany during World War 2, they specifically and intentionally selected civilian targets and infrastructure as part of their bombing campaigns, because they believed that demoralizing and devastating the civilian population would force Germany into an earlier surrender. Over half a million German civilians were killed in Allied bombardments, and as Allied ground forces made their way across the countryside they raped between one hundred thousand to two million German women and girls.

Are those bad things? Certainly. Do they make the Allies the bad guys in World War 2? Certainly not. It would be weird if, for example, anytime anyone showed support for the Allied war efforts, they were questioned as to whether they supported the rape of 2 million German women. If people were banned from social media or forums for stating their support for the Allied forces. If Veterans Day parades were interrupted with journalists asking WW2 vets if they condemned the actions of the Allied military forces in Germany.

Bottom line is, you dont have to defend every action taken in order to take a side, and taking a side shouldnt be construed as agreeing with every single action that side has taken.
