TotK came out, and most of what I heard for the first couple of weeks was how it was bad because it was just a rehash of BotW, and then it disappeared off my radar completely.

BGIII came out and everyone's talking about how it's the greatest RPG in years and making YouTube videos about how it takes a massive steaming shit on every other studio showing that you can in fact make a robust and engaging RPG in the modern era without falling into all the same traps every other dev seems to. And people are still talking about it and posting clips from it months later.

Just from my perception alone, TotK was a fart in the wind while BGIII was apparently a masterpiece. Only one of those really deserves GotY status.

Not that GotY status really means anything or matters all that much. Like the Oscars, it's mostly just an excuse for an industry to masturbate for a bit once a year.
