This. And more importantly take care of performers even more.

My little brother worked retail (Meijers, midwest grocery chain) night shift stocking and they were unionized (UAW for some reason). He was young and gung ho, threw up two-three aisles per night for less than minimum wage after you took his union dues out. Another 70 year old dude struggled to handle only the coffee 1/2 aisle in a shift but had been there for so long he made $30+/hr.

That's the only gripe I have with unions - the best CANNOT climb and the worst CANNOT be fired/pay cut. Negotiate safety like the old days, but these unwavering locked in pay scales are utterly nonsense.
From what I've seen, the Meijer Union is complete shit. Not all their stores are even unionized. And I have to wonder what kind of insane dues he was being charged if it dropped his hourly wage to below minimum.

I just started at a Midwest grocery store. Starting pay was $17/hr and union dues are $10/week. I'm only working about 25 hours a week and taking out the dues would, it theory, put me around $16.50/hr.

The ball is round, the game lasts 90 minutes. That's fact.
Everything else, is theory.
