People self-prescribe because they are encouraged to do so anytime they watch any pharmaceutical commercial and those are literally everywhere. You're told that you're either dying or ill at least twice per commercial break.
It's honestly unfathomable to me how it's allowed and how widespread it's become. It's incredibly damaging to the medical field and directly damages their ability to properly do their jobs.
