At least in the case of Uber/Lyft I can understand there being a layer of separation or limit of liability for the company since they provide the connection to the driver and have no inherent control over the quality of the drivers (beyond customer input) or ability to control for traffic, so it makes sense. --- The name is wackyteen for a reason.
