The CFP just puts a LOT of emphasis on strength of schedule and high-quality wins, and they very strictly ignore games that have not yet been played, so Ohio State's two wins over Notre Dame and Penn State just completely dominate Michigan's resume. I actually thought Michigan was going to be ranked lower! I agree that Michigan looks like the better team when you watch them, but they've done that while not playing anyone who's even sniffing the top 25. That'll all get sorted once they play Penn State. There's nothing wonky about it - Michigan is simply unproven and Ohio State is not. Even if we assume Michigan will beat Penn State, the CFP doesn't until it actually happens.
