They think they understand, but then they open their mouths and show they really don't. Especially the purist wing who uses the same mindset of, "I want what I want, regardless if I don't have the numbers in government to get what I want! It's all or nothing!" The purist types are never satisfied no matter what you do for them because it's never good enough.
