Its like, very slowly dying. Even Hogwartss 15-20 million copies is less thsn half of the number of people who saw that purportedly terrible last Fantastic Beasts movie in cinemas (~40 million), and that film bombed. I dont think theres much growth potential because the person in control is both a terrible hate activist who rightly puts people off and a massive creative liability. The other key person is David Zaslav. Not exactly a recipe for ongoing creative success.

However, gaming is still a much smaller audience with a much higher potential return on investment because of the higher cost to purchase a game compared to getting a ticket for a movie. Though to have a brief tangent it cost me 17 to see The Marvels and I was like what? Anyway not to sound too much like a broken record whenever this topic comes up but given that, it is no surprise that when an established IP, even a declined one, gets a competently made and heavily marketed AAA game it sells a lot within the still relatively small gaming audience. Jedi Survivor sold nearly as well for instance, Spider-Man 2 did massive numbers, and you know that Avatar game will probably be huge too. It is only remarkable that it took studios and publishers this long to realise this!

Still cant believe Square Enix tanked Avengers as badly as they did, wow.
