Personally I always think about how Tokyo barely has any trash cans on the streets while there is also barely any street garbage.

That's cultural. People as a society saying "I will hold onto my trash and throw it out responsibly in order to maintain social order"
Their concept of social responsibility is MAGNITUDES stronger than any American sense of "social responsibility"

I wish we had that. That level of consideration to others in public, civic and social responsibility taken seriously by MOST of the populace

But there are plenty of things wrong with Japanese society. Their long work hours, strict hierarchies, and slowness to adapt to technological changes. And that's not to mention the government's continued denial of their WW2 war crimes and hardline stances against immigration contributing to the aging population.
