Nintendo was offering a one-week trial for a new farming game called Fae Farm. However, by the time I finished Mario Wonder and found out about it, there was only two days left, so I didn't get to experience the combat and magic system.

It didn't really get its hooks into me, but it does have some great ideas. Your character can jump, and there's these bouncy mushrooms around, so there's more of a vertical scale, which is nice. You can tag any character or location on the map so you can always find a specific one. You have a good amount of control over where you cast your fishing rod, something I desperately wish Animal Crossing would do. Dealing with obstacles is context sensitive, so you'll automatically use the right tool to break down something.

I didn't like how zoomed-in the camera was. Made it easy to get lost. And when I got tired of farming and fishing, I wanted to see what combat was like, but the mines were still locked off over a week in. No idea what you had to do to unlock them. According to the store, story progress isn't dependent on the calendar. This might be a good thing if you know what you're doing, but it just left me lost as to what to do next. Having real-world time pressure hanging over me didn't help, but that's not their fault.

It seems to be getting decent reviews, but I can say with certainty that it's definitely not worth the $60 it's charging. Stardew is only $15 on Switch and has loads of content, with another big update on the way. It's still the gold standard in farming games for me, and 1000+ hours spread out over five years doesn't lie. Coral Island is seemingly inspired by Stardew and 3D as well, but only charges $30, though it seems to be in rough technical shape right now.
