145. Scissor Split (Sonya, MK9)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p10eYUu-45s
While I miss the action replay of the MK4 version, I prefer this version overall because of the opponent struggling and flailing to try and escape. The slow motion on the split is a solid replacement for the action replay as well.

144. Prince of Pain (Goro, MK1)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UFfVE81n6qc
Goros picked up a thing or two from Jax with the head clap here. However, Goro puts his own spin on it by using his lower arms to hold the opponent in place for the clap. The opponent reacting with horror gets this some points from Jaxs version, as does the additional Goro touch of ripping the body in half by grabbing within the newly vacated neck.

143. Tell em Freddy Sent Ya (Freddy, MK9)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8u4Bl5R5lc
Freddy recreates his killing of Glen in the first Nightmare on Elm Street by dragging his opponent down to the NetherRealm. After a few moments, a bloody geyser starts up and doesnt stop for the rest of the fatality. Its very memorable and gory, even if it doesnt quite have the impact it does in the film, where the scene took place in Glens bedroom, enabling the blood to splash all over the walls and ceiling. If Amber Heard did her own Mortal Kombat fatality ranking, I bet this would be number 1!

142. Does it Sting? (Rain, MK9)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9gr8B1cUBU
To answer Rains question, yes, I imagine intensely high-pressure water like this does sting. Just the water sword alone would be underwhelming, but what elevates this fatality is the first part of it, creatively using the water to place pressure on the opponents legs until they break. After that, the finishing water sword is a bonus.

141. Nether Gates (Scorpion, MK9)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6XUy7QB7cd8
Scorpion gives thinking with portals a try, and this is the result. The long drop followed by a short stop would have been enough, but the extra Mortal Kombat touch of the opponent having been flayed at some point is what stops this from being too disturbing like a real hanging would have been (or as real as one involving portals can be anyway). That the flaying takes place off screen adds to the mystery of this one: where do the portals go to? Do we even want to find out?
